A snapshot in Carter's life, right at this moment in time:
10. Reading: Harry Potter, he is on book 7 now and although the speed of getting through them has declined in the last year, when you ask him about them, he really does love enjoy them. He absolutely loves his monthly Sports Illustrated magazine and has the posters hanging all over his wall.
9. Sketching and Drawing, mainly in pencil: This one is still surprises us but we loved how we were in the car at New Mexico trip and he would pass forward cool highway scene sketches. Yesterday, we were cleaning out this room tougher and I found several skateboarding sketches randomly on a pile in his desk.
8. Saxophone: This young boy definitely has a gift in the music department. I love how his constant focus on music over the past several years works his right side of his brain and you can tell he truly loves every single minute of it, even practicing 30 minutes nearly every single day.
7. Doing the Fortnite Dance: Although he only plays the recent video game phenomenon that seems to be taking over the world, Fortnite, a couple of times month when he is at certain friend's houses, we laugh because he does the little Fortnite dance anytime he is happy with himself, proud of himself or get's to do something he wants to!
6. Soccer: It's still a big part of his world, obviously if playing year round. We often ask does he still love it and he always says yes. Currently, he is playing on his very first indoor team and it has been a great change of pace and he has enjoyed it immensely.
5. Being with Mom and Dad: He still likes to hang with his. This absolutely makes my heart so happy but I can tell, it truly is part of who he is. Many times a week, if we say, let's clean up dinner and get showered so if anyone wants to, we can climb in our bed and watch TV, like our beloved Survivor. I love how over the last 2 years, while we are watching Tribal Council, Carter will be one player and Addison will be the other player, holding up fingers, until the final vote is in. These moments are still my ultimate favorite of our everyday life. Also, I truly love how Carter, still, always walks in the house after nightly evening practice and walks straight to my room, on the other side of the house to tell me hello, even before we goes to take a shower.
4. New Electric Bike: Since I made this list just after Christmas, we knew we had to put on the list his new bike he received from Santa. He truly is so excited about it and loves zooming around our house and yard. He loves being able to quickly get to the Burek and Moake's houses and now that all the kid's have electric devices in the area, I love seeing them zoom around tougher and build memories.
3. Skateboarding and non-electric Razor Scootering: He will watch a YouTube video on a new trick and then he will go outside for hours, trying to master it and build on top of it. He loves take videos of his new moves and play them for everyone.
2. His Neighborhood Boys "Crew": With these 4 is where you will find Carter nearly every single day for hours upon hours. I absolutely love talking with the five of them and watching them interact. They teach me more than they know, yesterday I learned about what an "okay sign with your hand" means when you see it. With Owen and Samuel, the oldest, I love engaging them in what is "cool" at 13 and I love how the main thing that all five of them want to do is play outside, usually basketball, scooters, football, hoover boards, trekking through the creek bed or over at the Moake's on their sports court, playing ping pong or at the Burek's on the trampoline or playing cops and robbers. These boys are such good kids and I'm so glad they are able to just run around the area, somewhat free.
1. Basketball: This has got to the longest standing Top 10 list item for Carter since one or two years old or maybe it's just that his birthday each year is in the middle of his basketball seasons. But BASKETBALL is HIS passion. He loves it sop much and will spend hours out on the driveways basketball hoop perfecting his shot. He loves playing for Bruce and his team and all the November and December weekend tournaments they have already participated in. This season is the toughest one they have had in 3 years, which is always a true test to a kid this age, but he still loves the game!
Other things he loves but not in top 10:
- His sisters and although they spend an enormous time together and are truly running around TOGETHER outside and with the neighborhood friends, they aren't quite as tight as they have always been. Many times, I think it's driven more by Addison who thinks "they don't get a long," but when you ask her for specifics, she really can't give any. Delaney still sneaks in Carter's room most mornings to fall back asleep with him and he always welcomes her.
- Anything Christmas, he loves decorating the house!
- Carter absolutely loves school and says Science is his favorite class after the first half of 6th grade.
- Sitting with us at Main Church over the last few months.
