Christmas Colorado Road Trip: Day 5 - Christmas Eve - Old Movies, Relaxing, Games, Sweatshirts, Snow Man, Main Street Breckenridge, Dinner at Blue River Bistro, Candlelight Service & Traditions

We woke up and relaxed, watched E.T. for the first time, played Meme's super fun Christmas Saran Wrap games, headed outside to beat the odds with the dry snow and successful built a snow man named Harold. We did some sledding and recreated some photos from years past. Then, we headed to town to enjoy Breckenridge's Christmas Eve on Main Street and the cute stores. That morning, Will Ferrell had left the kids a note, telling them that they could each pick out a Breckenridge sweatshirt.  We went into some of our long time favorite stores like the toy store. It was there, around 4PM, that the absolute cutest thing happened when Delaney saw something inside the toy store that she wanted, yet had never mentioned, "Oh my goodness, there is one more thing I forgot to ever tell you or Santa that I REALLY WANT.... it's a canopy for above my bed." We told her that Santa was already delivering presents in China and that it would be a Christmas miracle if he was able to pull that off.

Then, we walked to Blue River Bistro where we had reservations for a Christmas Eve early dinner. The ambience, the warmth, the service, the food, the company and conversation was just wonderful. We all agreed it was one of our favorite meals. My Scottish salmon and most definitely Blake’s bison short ribs were incredible. The type of entree we will return for! Then, it was off to church at Great Divide Calvary with a candlelight caroling and message service with the Perkins. Carter sat next to Easton and Delaney fell asleep next to me, holding her candle. It was a sweet message about not taking the ritual of Christmas for granted. We came home and got all our ski stuff ready for the next morning, took turns reading The Real Night Before Christmas, where Addison naturally brought each and every page of the story to life. It was really one of my very favorite memories of the evening and Addison helping Delaney sound out the words of the book. We then sang Happy Birthday to Jesus, since it is HIS birthday, which is the biggest and most important gift to us! Through the "brookies" we made for His birthday cake, we learned about the high altitude's effect on baking.
We curled up and watched The Christmas Story, and of course, read The Night Before Christmas at 8:25PM. It was early to bed to see if Santa would find us before we had a full day of skiing on Christmas Day.

I'M GRATEFUL FOR...

MB - Addie saying the prayer at dinner and for her bringing to life every page of The True Night Before Christmas book. I loved Delaney reading the pages, herself, and Addie helping her sound harder words out. I am also grateful that we all loved reflecting on all our Christmas Eves, in years' past.

BB- the small town of Breckenridge on Christmas Even and for the intimate and meaningful candle light Christmas Eve service.

CB- the church service and sitting next to Easton.

AB- eating dinner, as a family, at Blue River Bistro.

DB- decorating the Jesus birthday cake and singing happy birthday to Him.
