Carter's Top 10 List at 13 Years Old

It's one of our favorite times of the year. Time for Blake and I to sit and talk about just Carter for an hour and come up with our personal list of the TOP things that we would want to remember about him at this EXACT moment of his life. This year, we let the whole family weight in on what they think are Carter's TOP passions in life as he turns 13.

10. Being annoying to his 2 sisters. Who said all the TOP list had to be nice and positive. Although, I truly do believe he is, hands down, the most amazing these 2 girls to ask for, he definitely has no issue being the older, annoying brother.

9. Cuddling with his mom! This sweet boy is still the kindest, gentlest son you could ask for. Every single night that he comes in from some type of practice, he comes straight in my room to say hello before running off to take a shower and finish homework. Most of the time, he comes back and lays down next to me and/or the whole family to watch a show or to tell us some in depth story.

8. Playing little quick games with friends on his phone: Games like Crazy 8, Archery, 8 Ball, Cup Pong and Knockout. You just go back and forth with moves. Pretty much, all friends, have it going, occasionally on the text history.

7. Root Beer. This drink has become his favorite thing to drink after water. He even got a kit for Christmas and really enjoyed making it and drinking it.

6. Playing his Saxophone. Playing the baritone saxophone is something he still very much loves and never complains about doing.

5. Soccer. Soccer has been such a huge part of Carter's life for so long. For at least 5 years, he has played it year round and 4-5 days a week many weeks. Although, it's rare that he is outside playing soccer at home, he still says he loves it. He has a good group of boys on his Classics ECNL team.

4. Playing outside in the neighborhood. At 13, this is one that I am truly happy about. Carter loves being outside doing anything. No matter if it is mowing the grass or playing on his own or with neighborhood friends. He never complains when we tell him to go outside.

3. His neighborhood friends: Between the Moake's and the Burek's, Carter is outside running around with these 4 boys 90% of the time. I love how they split time between all the houses. Their friendship and proximity are what keep Carter outdoors and off electronics.

2. Basketball. And for the 13th straight year, this is in his top 3, more than likely. During his 13th birthday, he was in the smack middle of his first ever middle school basketball season. He never complained about the 6:15AM daily practices. He loved every single moment of it.

1. Everything scootering, ramps, jumps and making videos! This is definitely something new that has fired up for Carter just before his 13th birthday. He absolutely loves hanging out with the Burek's and Moake's - practicing jumps and making videos of his "tricks!"

We also started talking to Carter about his "personal brand," and what that means. We said from his family's perspective, his brand is "most of the time caring, active, smart, sensitive, rule-bound, detail-oriented and sweet." He said he thought his band friends would describe him as "funny, active and outgoing," and his athletic friends would say he is, "focused, hardworking and positive."
