August 18, 2019 - we kicked off the season with scrimmages. Not only were the girls going to be playing up an entire year, this meant that they were playing 11 v. 11 on the much bigger field a year earlier.
College Station friendlies weekend - August 24-25. We made it a girls' weekend.
August 31 weekend
Labor Day
September 14, 2019 - Fun celebrating Morgan's 11th birthday.
September 21 game weekend
Sunday October 13, Coach Owen asked Addie to play this Sunday game with Tulsa in town for a game. This is arguably the best team in the entire league, in most age groups, across boys and girls. Addison played goalie the 2nd half and unfortunaley had 3 goals scored on her, as they lost 0-4. During the second half, they were on Addison's part of the field for 85% of the time. She was disappointed, of course, but I think it was a strategic decision not in Addison's best interest to ask her to play that one game. We came home that day and worked on a pre-game routine and tuned a negative feeling into a positive.
Oct 19 and 20 - 2 games. Saturday was in Austin. Mom was out of town in Las Vegas for a Dermatology National Conference, so there was no photograph, of course.
October 26, Addison's team had some fun playing in Classic's Annual Boo-fest. They played in the top boys and girls bracket and played against the 2nd 2006 and 1st 2007 boys teams. It was some tough competition but so much fun.
Nov 2 weekend game vs. the 2007 Top SA City Girl's team marked the first time that I forgot they were playing up an entire year. We lost by 2-1, but the girls looked good. I have been noticing that coach has had Addie in goal majority of each game, but he did take her out the last 8 minutes of the game and she played aggressively in offense, which was fun to see!
Nov 17 weekend - friendlies with the CE Rio Grande Valley Team.
November 19 was a volunteer night for the girls for KINETIC KIDS. It was one of my favorite evenings, seeing the girls and kids interact.
Then, it was just a couple of more practices after Thanksgiving to get ready for the last home tournament of the year - Classics Winter Blast! The girls played up in 2007 bracket and won all 3 games and then ended up loosing in the finals to one of the Houston teams they had beat the day prior.
The 2020 second half the season started with 4 day a week pool training with wanting them to attend 3/4. Although the girls were with the younger girls, it was nice being able to miss Wednesday nights while she had Cotillion. They had a fun tournament to kick off the year - Austin Elite - and accidentally were registered 2008 9 v. 9, unable to change it, they won it and was a great way to kick off the season, their confidence was hight again! They had so much fun. It reminded me of their old 4 v 4 Houston tournaments a few years ago. Addison played goalie the entire tournament and had an incredible tournament. Only being scored on 1 time.
In February, they played in the local United For Hope Tournament. They played in the Top 2007 bracket, which was 11 v 11. This was probably the most significant tournament for the girls, thus far. They easily beat the early morning team and then played against United's Top 2007 team and lost. The next morning was even a bigger game against their fellow Classics ECNL 2007 girls team that they regularly train for and that Addie practiced with the first half of the Fall. They dominated, in fact, Coach Owen later told his 2007 team, "I thought the '08's were better in pretty much every area possible. Technically, they were miles better, tactically they played more together and they had more collective desire to win the game." Because of that win, they got to have a re-do against the United '07 team and they won in the finals 1-0. Addison had an incredible tournament again, playing all but the 2nd half of the 2nd game, where she played hard in the field, in the center. Although, she had 4 goals scored on her during the tournament, she had around 15 legitimate saves, including coming out several time, saving many goals. Her decision making, distributions and punting was right on. Surprisingly, that night, Coach Kevin messaged me one off, saying "Addison was VERY good this weekend in the goal. Not that she normally isn't great but she was fantastic."
Then, it was on to Brenham for 3 weekends in February and March for the state cup qualifying tournament. The first weekend was Feb 22 & 23. They confidentley beat the Challenge 2007 Cypress team 5-0. Addison even got to play the on the field some towards the end of the game. Unfortunately, they lost Sunday's game vs. Albion 2007 Elite - 2-1. The Albion team had a couple of larger girls and was very physical. I look forward to playing them again.
Immediately, after the girl game, we headed to College Station and arrived a couple of minutes after the girls soccer team started their first Spring game of the year. We sat on the front row and my favorite part were watching the players standing on the side line cheering for their teammates on the field. They were hysterical, engaged and so supportive. It was so great for the kids see that.
Brenham Weekend #2, Blake took Addison and Carter, since Carter had a soccer game Saturday morning, in nearby Houston, while Megan and Delaney stayed back and packed for the family for Spring Break.
