Spring Break: Day 1 (New Orleans Bound)

Day 1

Friday morning, we  left around 10:40 AM and drove straight through to Baton Rouge with only one brief stop, east of Houston. Traffic on I-10 got thick in Lake Charles but we were able to use Waze to navigate around it. When it got slow again in Baton Rouge, around 7PM, we used it as an opportunity to stop at a true hole in the wall - Fish City Grill for some legit crawfish and shrimp boil. We filled up on 3 pounds of crawfish and 1.5 pounds of gigantic boiled shrimp and kicked in gear our Cajun part of our Spring Break trip, in the most perfect manner. After nearly 9 hours of actual driving (11 hours with stops), we arrived at the historic Roosevelt Hotel, just off Canal street just about 1 hour & 15 minutes later, after leaving Baton Rouge, around 9:15PM. The kids thought we were staying at the New York Home Alone hotel. It was super fancy and the elevators were tiny, just big enough to fit the 5 of us and our bags. We had several windows that looked down to Canal street and the kids just started to take it all in. Everyone was in great moods and it was late before we finally settled down from all the excitement and anticipation for the big week ahead.
