It's that time of year again to stop and really reflect on who and what personality characteristics make up Delaney at the age of 5. Traditionally, we have done that by a "Top 10 List," so drum roll please...
10. Books and reading - Delaney is always up for reading one of her millions of books all over her room. 9. Friends - She loves her school friends, both the older ones and younger ones. She and Asher are still like two peas in a pod and have a truly special bond at 5 years old.
8. Shopping - One of her very favorite things to do is go with us to HEB! She makes grocery shopping fun and we take her every chance we get.
7. Eating sweets - This girl has a sweet tooth like her momma!
6. Tiger - She is laying on or next to Tiger any chance she can get.
5. Carter and Addison - Delaney loves her brother and sister and spends so much time with them both. On most Saturday mornings recently, she and Addison will be in the game room playing dolls or just pretend playing in her room. They still dress up together too.
4. Mom and Dad - Sweet Delaney still prefers to be with us when she can. We've noticed a huge increase in her confidence in recent months but she will still come and just sit in my lap and gives us the best hugs every day.
3. Wearing jewelry - EVERY single day, Delaney has necklaces and bracelets on. She loves her jewelry. Her favorite right at 5 is a silver necklace with 2 princess charms of Elsa and Elena that Ya-Ya got her at Disney World a year ago.
2. Wearing dresses - Delaney walks in from school and for months now, immediately goes into her room and rummages through her closet to put on a dress. Every. Single. Day. She wears dresses or skirts exclusively on the weekends and can't wait for Kindergarten when she can wear dresses every day instead of a uniform.
1. Snuggling - Delaney must be next to someone when she sleeps. It truly is something she needs. It doesn't matter which of the 4 of us, or Meme, Yaya or even Asher... the girl must snuggle.
Things she recently said that are hysterical:
- "Tiger licked me on the nose and lips, that's why I know she really loves me."
- Delaney was with me in the kitchen and Addie was upset with me and I called her into the kitchen to talk one Tuesday evening and she walked off upset. After Addison left, Delaney looked up at me and said, "I don't think that talk went well."
- Early one school morning, just after her 5th birthday, already dressed for school, she came to find me in my office and climbed up in my office. She had one of her very favorite necklaces on, the one with the Disney princes and I was telling her that she still had some gift cards left from her birthday and she could buy a new princess charm to add to her very favorite necklace she was wearing. She thought for a second and said, "No, I think I just want to save my money for important things like college." Very shocked at her response, I hugged her and said, "Honey if you keep doing good in school and making good decisions, then daddy and I will pay for your college, you don't have to save for that." I went on to say, "but you will have to save for her first car when you turn 16." Delaney didn't have much of a response to that so I said, "You want to drive when you are 16, right?" And she quickly replied, "No, not really." It was so funny and I can't wait for her to read this when she is 15 and 16 years old.
