LLFC - Early Mornings: Our Cabin & Remembering Laura In A Place She Would Love

This year, our cabin, was the absolute farthest away cabin possible. At first, based on our previous year's location and experience, I couldn't help but be a little disappointed in the distance but as the time went on, I absolutely loved the peace and solitude that our location offered us. My favorite was waking up the first 4 mornings and sitting out on the back porch watching the crystal green river water back up to the immensely tall canyon wall. I loved journaling, reading and most of all reading the tribute book written for Johnathan McComb to help commemorate the lives of Laura, Andrew & Leighton. I had been a very small part of helping organize it with Jonathan's sister, Emily. The book project, 18 months in total, had been the gift idea of Emily to present to her heart broken and incredibly strong brother, Johnathan and was a true testament of love. The book had arrived at my door step a week prior to leaving for LLFC, but I found it appropriate to wait to read it until my week at Family Camp. Family Camp had been something that Laura and I talked about bringing our family's to the year before the accident. One night at a sales meeting, as we brainstormed memory filled wholesome trips ideas for our young families, I knew Laity Lodge would be a natural fit of the 4 of them, especially considering their already strong faith in God.

I journaled that first Monday morning:

"As I read the words written by those hundreds of people that loved them, tears stream down my cheeks. As I stare at pictures of her, it still doesn't feel like 2 years ago since I last talked to her live, as she was finishing up work that Thursday prior getting ready for a long holiday weekend. This book here in my lap and time here at LLFC is another reminder that life is so precious and short and we must continue to live our lives intentionally, with everything we do."
