Thanksgiving Road Trip: New Mexico - Day 6 - Thanksgiving Day, Roswell, NM UFO Balloon Release, Denny's & Trinity Hotel

We woke up on Thanksgiving Day and had a leisurely morning watching the Macy's parade before packing up and heading Southwest towards our final night's stop in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Although it ended up being largely a travel day, in Roswell, New Mexico, we had an impromptu stop at Dollar Tree and continued our annual Thanksgiving Tradition of getting a balloon and writing down all the things we are thankful for in life and released them in front of the world-renowned Roswell, New Mexico UFO Museum. Although it was closed being a major holiday, we are sure never to forget our memories of Roswell!

I love randomly driving through tiny towns and figuring out what they are famous for. In Artesia, New Mexico, they are known for their street sculptures lining Main Street!

Then, our real adventure began, attempting to find somewhere for 10 people to eat Thanksgiving Dinner in a small rural town, relatively late in the day at 4PM. Two weeks prior, Blake and I had called at least 12 places in Roswell and Carlsbad to find a good place for Thanksgiving Day lunch but had no luck. We got all the way to Carlsbad and our best restaurant option, inside a motel, declined our group saying there was no way they could feed 10 people because they were getting ready to close for the day. So, we back tracked to the packed Carlsbad Denny's and will I will never forget watching the hostess's face when she looked up and saw the 10 of us walking in and her mouth move saying, "Oh my gosh!" But actually, it ended up being an awesome and memorable road trip Thanksgiving trip dinner. I guarantee it will the the one that we all remember 25 years from now! We had the kindest server imaginable and surprisingly, the Thanksgiving dinner platter was pretty good and you can't beat Denny's Kids Eat Free promotion, surprisingly even honored on Thanksgiving night! ;)

It was nice being full and just 60 seconds away from our historic 9 room boutique hotel called the Trinity Hotel. The Victorian style building is the oldest ones in the area and was built in 1892 as the First National Bank, where it once housed the first newspaper. The Perkins' suite even had the bank's orginal vault in it. When Blake found this hotel 9 months ago, we planned to volunteer with the hotel employees serve their traditional free community wide Thanksgiving meal but it ended up getting moved to the day before Thanksgiving and we were sad to miss it. These are the types of hotels I love staying in in this chapter of life.

To wrap up Thanksgiving 2018, we had an epic game night of Heads Up and Charades for Kids, my current 2 favorite family games. That was followed by a late night run to see if there was any place open on Thanksgiving night for dessert. The absolute funniest memory of this night was catching on Head's Up Video a sweet moment where I was holding Delaney (above pic) and kissed her and said, "I love you." Delaney instantly respond back, "I love CANDY." We all died laughing and have watched that video nearly a 100 times.
