Thanksgiving Road Trip: New Mexico - Day 4 - Rio Grande Gorge Bridge, Taos Pueblo, Delaney's First Turquoise & Overland

Today, we headed on another "day trip" NORTH to Taos. We explored The Rio Grande River Gorge Bridge, one of the highest bridges in the US. Delaney solidified the fact that she is NOT a fan of heights and the pour girl was a trouper for a quick picture and ready for her daddy to help her escape the windy weather and get off that huge bridge. At the bridge, we purchased of family's souvenir of the trip from the local artisans that set up shop. We choose a locally made cedar bowl made with New Mexico cedar and turquoise and other stones from New Mexico. We told them the best behaved kid of the tip will get it passed on to them in 50 years and snapped a picture with the artist.

It was Addison's 10 and a half birthday today, so we made our traditional Spring Break half birthday stop at a local gas station for her to select a sugary treat for her and her friends to mark the special day. This year, the winner was a Hostess Cream Filled Chocolate cupcake.

We then checked out Taos Pueblo. While maybe not the most "fun" stop on the trip, I am still glad we toured it, as it is one o the longest continuously inhabited communities in the country. We went into one of the their kitchens and they showed us how they make Fry Bread and it was delicious.

We then went to downtown Taos and and ate some yummy New Mexican Taos food at La Cueva and explored the famous plaza and met some interesting locals.  All week long, Delaney had been shopping fir her very first piece of turquoise jewelry and she found the perfect necklace to treasure of the rest of her life. We finished the night with ice cream in 30 degree weather and had an impromptu stop at a fun store called Overland, were they set up a game of spec "Hide and Seek" for our kids in their amazing sheep skin room. That was definitely a fun and memorable experience and I know I won't soon forget it.
