Dear My Amazing Carter,
So much of me, as your mom, wants to tell you to FREEZE and stay this exact age, forever. You are so unbelievably amazing. 9 years out was perfection for you and all of us. Carter, you are so kind and loving... I specifically took time the other day to soak in the fact that you will still run up and give me a hug when I pick you up at school and you even held my hand as we were walking out of school the other day. Every single time you come home late after soccer practices, you have the sweet habit of immediately coming into my room to find me and ask if you can cuddle after your shower. I am hanging on to every single one of these moments as I am afraid you will soon become more stingy with them... but again, maybe not....
You are an amazing BIG brother to both your sisters... simply awesome. Just this morning, your turned off you brand new XBOX to help Delaney play with her American Girl new toys. You are the first to offer to help get her ready for bed and your continued patience with Addison is something that books could be written of. Watching you at Christmas this year, my eyes were especially focused on you... watching your 110% "believing heart" soak in every single Christmas tradition... every single present you opened, cookie your decorated or Letter to Santa you read. Will Ferrel, our precious Elf from the North Pole, who had become slightly annoying to your father and I in previous years, was a welcome and joyous visit every single December morning, simply because we knew it was the first thing on your mind when those beautiful dark brown eyes opened each day.
Carter - your memory and brain continue to astound me, you memory standing out even more this year. You have been learning to play the piano for 2 months now and often teach yourself entire songs in just an hour's time and play them by memory. Your mind simply blows mine! School is a joy for you. At your new school - Roan Forest, you were selected for the 2nd year in a row - as one of 3 students in your entire grade level as the Student Lighthouse Team. This is an incredible honor bestowed on you by your new school's teachers and principle and further demonstrates how I am not the only one that you leave a strong impression on... and they had only known you for a few short weeks.
We have been so proud of you on how you have stretched yourself this year... in ways that once weren't a comfort area for you, earlier in life. In CBC church choir, you have auditioned and were selected for numerous speaking and acting parts, including Angel Gabriel in the Nativity. You have embraced choir and those leadership opportunities with an open heart and I have seen you even surprise yourself. On the same page, at school, you joined the 4th & 5th grade Roan Forest Choir and were even selected as the only male lead part for the Winter Musical. You went early to school for over a month to perfect it, in addition to the regular after school rehearsals. You loved making sure your winter outfit costume for your character "Tag-A-Long" was perfect and even got your sister and me to practice with you, when needed!
On the soccer field, you are still naturally at "home." You just finished your first half of the year on your Classics Elite Select Traveling Division 1 Team. You have a wonderful team and you also were asked to try out and made the San Antonio FC Professional Soccer Team's '2006 Training Squad'... so soccer is your life at least 4 days a week. Basketball soon starts and you still say that basketball is your true #1 passion. We can't wait to see you play your 8th season.
Carter, you dad and I love everything about you and because of that, I won't make your "FREEZE in time,' and instead look forward to watching you continue to grow. Thank you for being our son and we love you so very much.
Mommy
