Team Ya-Ya - Race For The Cure

On December 20, 2012 - I will never forget where I was when I got a call from my step-dad Joe telling me that my mom had been diagnosed with breast cancer. It was a complete shock as my mom had never told any of us what she was facing during that month or two before while she was undergoing the initial testing.

She was dignosed with Stage 1, grade 2, Invasive lavular (not ductal) T1-C stage, ER+, HER2-. She bravely under went a double mastecomy in mid February 2013 and although she was right on the line of needing chemo and decided to be proactive further decreasing the chance of it coming back. She started chemo in March and had four single day treatments three weeks apart. She did start loosing her hair a month in and decided to shave it. Otherwise, she had no nausea and the worst part of the treatments were the Nuelasta white blood cell booster that caused severe muscle pain/leg pain for a few days.
