Delaney Cheryl's Birth Story: The Delivery (Part 2)

First of all, I can't thank Megan Perkins enough for being there to document this most amazing day for us. It's pretty incredible to have a best friend as talented as she that you LOVE having her there to share in this life changing moment. She captured this time perfectly and it brought tears to my eyes and and many smiles to my face when I look back on the day seven days later... I can only imagine what these images will mean to me and Delaney in thirty or more years. Thank you Megan. I love you!

This is where is got a little crazy... twenty minutes after getting my epidural, I went from 4 cm to 8cm at 11:30AM... wow, I was shocked! They turned me to my right side one last time and the baby's heart rate plummeted to around 50 bmp from 140. Dr. Gallagher was called and walked in right as my mom arrived at the hospital. Calmly, more nurses rushed in, they started me on oxygen and NICU for the baby was called and in our room in less than a minute on stand bye. For some reason I stayed calm knowing the baby and I were in good hands and it wasn't going to do me any good to stress out. At that point, about 10 minutes later, I felt the pressure (finally) of the baby dropping, the same feeling I remembered with Carter and Addie and knew I was at a 10. Sure enough they checked me and I was ready to push.
11:45 This last picture was taken before Blake got dressed to help deliver Delaney and I started pushing.

The contractions were coming strong.
Although labor was very short, the end did get intense when her head was turned and she was stuck in the canal. They tried to turn her but to no avail, Dr. Gallagher asked if she could use the tiny vacuum (suction cup on a string, I like to call it) to help get her out. I was all for it as I was so frustrated not being able to push her out. Needless to say, the last five minutes of pushing took my mind off what we were having as I just wanted our baby out. As soon as Blake saw her, he yelled, "It's a baby... grrill... I think, YES.... it's a GIRL!" He later told us that area is so swollen from the hormones of delivery that he wasn't quite sure for half a second. I was so relieved it was all over and we had ourselves a DELANEY CHERYL. She came out so incredibly calm and wouldn't cry but her large blue gray eyes were wide open. As they were about to hand her to me, the baby nurse decided they needed to get her cleaned out and crying to make sure she was okay. She was perfect... all ten toes and ten fingers and weighed in at a even eight pounds and 20.5" long.

In the chaos of the delivery, I announced to the room that her full name is Delaney Cheryl Brown, we had never told anyone her middle name so you can imagine the surprise on my mom's face with the news. Again, I am beyond grateful to Megan for capturing these moments that would have otherwise been forgotten.

After almost 2.5 hours since birth, Blake walked Delaney down to the nursery for her first bath. On a high, I called my dad and sister, Danielle, who was just getting off a plane in El Paso for Danielle's last reguIar season basketball game. I also took time to send out the mass email letting our friends and family know we had a little girl!
