My 40th birthday was the day after Thanksgiving and on Black Friday. I loved how it fell on a holiday this year and I could send an entire day with my family. When I walked in the house from Orange Theory that morning, they surprised me at the door and had decorated the house, had breakfast ready for me and the kids had planned a special day for me. They know I am all about impromptu new experiences, so we explored random fruit stands on the south side of San Antonio, stopped at a sushi restaurant we had never been to in Alamo Heights and the said they wanted to take me to a movie and to choose one. It ended up being a huge, laughable mom failure, when I choose the new Mr Roger's Tom Hanks movie purely based on the awesome Rotten Tomatoes reviews it had, especially compared to the Frozen 2. I didn't even read a synopsis and 20 minutes into the movie, I was laughing to myself, finally noticing there wasn't another child below 16 in the movie theater. While it wasn't anything bad, the story line was definitely not for a 6 year old. All I could do was look at Blake and laugh and me so glad that I was 40 years old and had perspective in life, not to care too much or take it too seriously. I was shocked with how engaged all of them were and how Addison truly seemed to get something out of it. It is definitely a memory I will remember for a while. While at the movies, the Burek's invited us over for the evening so we had a fun night playing all the games in their game room, laughing while playing Ms. PacMan, ping pong and other arcade games.
