Wyoming: Day 1 - Arrival in Jackson Hole & Goosewing Ranch

Day 1 - Traveling To Wyoming

My 3AM alarm came quick after only 3 hours of sleep but it was easy to jump up. We had kids up at 3:30AM and our scheduled Uber driver was there at 3:45 AM. We had heard security line at 5AM the previous morning had been crazy but since we were flying out of the smaller, non Southwest terminal, we breezed through security. We flew on United, connecting through Denver and we arrived at Jackson Hole airport at 11:10AM, the most stunning airport I've seen to date.

We picked out our Expedition and drove into Jackson Hole to grab a bit to eat at Creekside Market, a super busy store and deli that made the most delicious sandwiches! We ate in the car because we were anxious to get to Goosewing Ranch as quickly as possible. Leaving Jackson Hole, we immediately entered Grand Teton State Park. The views, instantaneously, were amazing and a sense of gratitude and joy, being all together and healthy, on this incredible trip overfilled all of us. I was kind of concerned that Wyoming wouldn’t meet our amazing experience of the Oregon coastline but that silly concern went away, pretty much after stepping outside the plane and for sure as we made our way east to Goosewing.

A 20 mile road from Jackson Hole took over an hour due to the gravel road the entire way, which followed the Gros Ventre River. The Goosewing Ranch is in the heart of the Bridger Teton National Forest. The main ranch is just around 50 acres but the Goosewing Rendezvous Site was 4 miles north of the main ranch, up about 1500 additional feet.

Upon arriving in our Polaris we had for the weekend, we met Wayne, Jim and Lucy. Instantly, life was peaceful, slow and just ideal. We sat by the fire watching the kids hunt for old bullets in the dirt.

Wayne, our cowboy spent time with the kids at the corral and we quickly learned to love Wayne's Wayneism's - "Hurry up and take your time. You're on vacation."

This is it, what we had come for. Big Wyoming skies and pure relaxation!

We could do whatever felt natural, go off on our own or hang out at camp with Wayne and Jim. We did both, which we loved.

Even Blake and I had alone time, together. It was only end of Day 1 and we knew we had found a magical place.
