Pacific Northwest Family Summer Vacation - Day 7 - Northern California, The Avenue of The Giants, Eel River & Ukiah, CA

Day 7:- More Redwoods, Avenue of The Giants, Eel River & Ukiah, CA.

We woke up in Arcata, California and after a few games of hide and seek in our small hotel room, we headed south, staying along Highway 101 of course, to the famous section called The Avenue of the Giants.

We walked around another amazing grove of Redwoods that included "Founders Tree" in Founders Grove Loop, which also happened to be the home to the epic, fallen Dyerville Giant that fell in 1991. At the time, it was the tallest tree ever recorded. When it fell, a earthquake on the seismometer had been registered.

We picked up a picnic lunch at hole in the wall grocery store to enjoy down by the river. We walked through the redwoods down to the Eel River, which runs parallel to Highway 101 and The Avenue of the Giants. We ate lunch on the shore and just let the kids play and jump off huge rocks and tree branches. A constant true natural playground this trip has been.

Eating Wild Blackberries. We learned that blackberries were everywhere from Katy and from watching the homeless people in Portland.

Afterwards, we continued the drive down The Redwood Highway, what they call this couple hundred mile stretch of Highway 101 and let the kids watch Harry and the Henderson's  since everything around here is Big Foot!

Carter has gotten really good at spotting Myrtle wood trees!

We got to Leggett, California and did the famous driving of the car through a giant Redwood. It was super quick but fun. A definite must do, in fact, both Blake and I took a turn.

Before checking into our Hampton Inn, for the night, we had a super yummy sushi dinner in downtown Ukiah. Ukiah ended up having cute downtown. We unpacked and quickly headed to the hot tub to enjoy our very last night of vacation in the Pacific Northwest.
