Addison Reporting "Live" From The First Day of 5th Grade!

Addison was recommended to be a student reporter and report live from the first day of school at Roan Forest, for Spectrum News. It added a lot of excitement to an already enormous day for both her sister and brother, but there was no one better for the job. We reported to school by 6:15 AM and during one of the segments the entire family was interviewed with a focus on Carter's new clear backpack in middle school. It was a wonderful experience for Addison to get to a real picture of what it takes, behind the scenes, for reporters while they are on assignment. We are pretty sure there couldn't be a better way to kick off your 5th grade school year.

First Day Of School! Kindergarten, 5th Grade & 6th - MIDDLE SCHOOL

It was a great Monday morning filled with excitement and no nerves. It was a big one in the Brown household with a first time entry into middle school for Carter and elementary for Delaney. Addison kept the morning exciting in her own way, too!

Carter's "best" part of his day - being able to open his locker successfully. "Worst" - the moment he got out of dad's car not knowing where he would go and who he would find. Carter later said, that it only lasted a 3-4 minutes until he found Noah in the courtyard.

Addison's "best" part of her day - getting to do the news this morning. "I really loved the opportunity, to smile and have fun!" No worst, only another "best," - meeting a brand new girl in her class, "We have 3 new friends but Valeria, I really enjoyed getting to know her. She has such an amazing story of where she was last year and she is so thankful to be at Roan Forest."

Delaney's "best" part of her day - having Sela in her class and sitting next to her.

Blake took Carter to school and I walked the girls into their class. Delaney confidently walked into Mrs. Martin's class and literally didn't even turn around to say goodbye. Mrs. Martin walked her over to Sela, where they had saved Delaney a seat.

I think walked clear across the school with Addison and soaked in this very last, special walk. For today with Carter, as a 6th grader in middle school, it was a stark reminder that this was my very last year to walk her into school for the first day. I loved watching her stop and hug past teachers and walk down the halls so confidently, like she owned them. What a wonderful 5 years elementary school has been for her and I know 5th grade will be no different.

I couldn't wait to pick Carter up today after his first day. We decided he would walk with Mateo and Noah to the nearby Duncan Donuts and it worked out perfectly. Then it was off to pick up the girls and celebrate and unwind together.

We celebrated the successful first day of school with our favorite family appetizer of artichokes.
