Dear Addison at 9 Years Old,
What a special, special, amazing soul you are. Several times a week, you do something, often in the middle of a stressful moment of mine, to remind me how kind and loving you are. You want peace and everyone to be happy around you and are selfless at many times. There are numerous examples, at this age, that I will remember you sitting at the kitchen counter when Delaney or Carter started whining about something and you immediately volunteer to give up what they want, whether it be a specific cereal or to help them do something that they are responsible for.
I LOVE watching you perform... you are such a natural and so good at it. You are funny and animated and a sparkling star. You love talking on the microphone and putting together little plays and performances. You love to take Delaney off into a room and spend a few minutes preparing together for a dance performance. You are so patient and loving with her and never get frustrated with your 4 year old side-kick. You support her and encourage her gently and it's amazing to witness. Several times this Summer, I have clearly pictured you as an amazing Summer camp counselor while you are in high school and college. I see that you are made for that kind of service.
On the soccer field at 9, we get to see a while different side of you. This fierce competitor that is driven to excellence. Over the last year, you have really continued to develop into a smart and aggressive soccer player, both in the goal and on the field. We absolutely love watching you and are so thankful for your community of girls and Coach Heather on Everton.
There are times, when I get frustrated with you, for leaving socks and tons of stuff out and about, all over the house or or not following through with your list of chores, but when I pause and think about it, you are 9 and that is completely normal behavior. I do hold you to a high standard because you always meet and excel in your goals and look back so happy that you did it.
Addison - you really are a dream of a 9 year old and I'm so thankful you are ours! Like I have said before, I really wish I could hit pause for a while and keep you at this absolutely amazing age!
One of my favorite stories to remember you at this age was watching you at Laity Lodge Family Camp just 2 weeks after you turned 9 years old. You were the first one out on the dance floor and smack in front of the singers doing all the dance moves but later in the worship time, but most importantly, I watched you as you made sure everyone around you was having a good time. I remember Asher didn't want to hold hands with the certain people and you noticed this going on in the midst of the chaos and left your side of the circle to go be next to him. He immediately felt comfortable with you. The same evening as you were having so much fun, you noticed a 5 year old boy you never had met, standing alone and staring outside the group and yet again, you dropped what you were doing to go talk to him and to invite him in dance with y'all. I had tears well up in my eyes that evening as I repeatedly watched you in action and in your element. I am so very proud of you Addie. You really are amazing.
With so much love and respect for you,
Mommy
