Day 2:
We started stiring a little before 7 and the kids loved going outside and exploring the Far Flung Casita grounds, at sunrise. They found all kinds of bunnies and made up several games. This morning, we went into the Big Bend National Park and got free entrance due to having 4th graders in our house, a program they do to encourage families to get outside and explore the National Parks across the nation. That morning, we did the Lost Mines Hike in the Chisos mountains. This is the trail that the black bears are often found on and the kids, especially Easton and Addison were focused on finding them and led the way the entire time with Mike. The littles, Asher and Delaney, did remarkable on the hike. We got back to the Casitas in time to change and eat lunch and make it for our afternoon Rio Grande half day raft trip down the Rio Grande through the Dark Canyon. On the way to the drop off, the guides took us to meet the 4 legged “Mayor of Lajitas.” The drive was incredible along our US country's border. Our guides were wonderful and even offered to take the 6 kids on one raft leaving the four of us adults on one nice, peaceful raft. Although the water was extremely calm and slow, the float was relaxing and the kids had so much fun and loved even getting to stop for a snack break on the Mexico shore. One of the highlights from the day was when the little one’s ended up on the adult raft and wanted to touch the vegetation along the shore. The laughter from all 7 of us in the boat could be heard by both countries, for sure. For dinner that first night, we ventured into the Ghost Town of Terilingua for a wonderful dinner at the famous Starlight Theater. While we waited for our table, the girls explored the old ghost town’s ruins. It was such a fun and memorable second day! All the kids did remarkable today, we were so impressed! Dinner was really good and the inside of the small theater was so neat. The kids, all dining at their own table, were absolutely beyond exhausted but were enthralled with watching the acoustic musician sing original Texas country songs. Definitely worth the $6 tip for a musician babysitter. Looking back, this was such an incredible day and I wouldn't have changed a thing!
