Addison's First Ever Concert: Taylor Swift's Reputation Stadium Tour

For Addison and Ella’s 10th birthday in May, we gave the girls tickets to the Taylor Swift concert in Houston! Honestly, as they opened their presents, we realized that the girls didn't have any idea the magnitude of what a stadium “concert” really was. Soon, they would learn!

4 months later, the September weekend quickly arrived and we left San Antonio mid morning Saturday and got to go spend the afternoon with our 2017 Laity Lodge Family Camps friends Hadley and Henley Holmes. The girls had a great time playing and swimming while the adult visited.

Afterwards we grabbed a quick dinner and checked into our ideally located medical center Hilton and got changed. It was concert time! It worked out wonderfully to have the Houston metro rail just a couple of blocks away and although it was crowded, it was super quick traveling the 2 miles both to and from the concert.

I really didn’t have any expectations for Addison at the concert. I knew it would be late since Taylor Swift didn’t even go on stage until almost 9PM, but Addison ended up being the most fun concert goer ever! It wasn’t until the very end, when we all sat down for some acoustic ballads that we really didn’t know, that I saw her first yawn. Even the crowded trip out of the stadium and metro home, she was great! 10 years old was definitely an ideal age for such a big and late concert of this magnitude.

Addison really enjoyed every moment of the concert. She was super engaged in every song, jumping and screaming along for much of the show. Watching her dance and even dancing along with her much of show, especially to our old favorites - Shake it Off, Romeo and Juliet and Love Story will always be such vivid memories we share. Addison was blown away with the fireworks going off inside the stadium causing quick blasts of heat to our face each time they went off. She diligently counted the number of different microphones and outfit changes Taylor had. Addison commented on how “good of an eye roller Taylor Swift is,” noticing how animated her facial expressions were on the big screen. Addison said she also loved the huge blow up snakes and how much story telling and talking to the audience she did in the middle of the show. What I loved was how well spoken and grateful Taylor was. She stopped 4 different times to show gratitude and thank all the people with her on her tour and the the audience for choosing to come to her show. It really was such a breath of fresh air and wonderfully example to the girls!

We couldn’t have asked for a better first concert experience but I’m afraid that we set the bar so incredible high!
