Carter has really been interested in learning photography and has learned more in just a month than I did in a couple of years. He is already proficient in ISO, f-stop and shutter speed and knows how to think about all three when it comes to the look he is trying to achieve and the type of light he shooting in.
Recently, he wanted to put all his learnings to use and participate in his school's annual PTA Art Reflections contest specifically in the division of photography. With this year's theme, "Within Reach," he instantly knew he wanted to capture a shot of his little sister playing goalie. He spent 4 games over 2 weekends photographing her to get the perfect shot!
Drum roll please... this was the final choice for the submission to the 2017 Reflections Photography contest.
Fast forward to April and we found out that Carter was one of 2 Roan Forest kids to win an Award of Merit in the Visual Arts category. Unfortunately, Carter had to miss the 2 formal award presentations at Blossom and at school due to other extra circular commitments. But we are SO proud of him!
This weekend, I let him play with the camera and photograph anything he wanted and I was surprised several days later what I found when I downloaded some pictures. He really has an eye and has definitely learned how to use aperture and focus on things with a blur in the background and foreground.
