Day 4 - Monday: Sunrise Hike, Hiking Down and Waterpark Fun
The alarm went off at 5:15AM and we snoozed to 5:30 and with lots of work to persuade Addison to get up, we were on the trail to Myrtle Point around 5:56AM. We arrived just as the sun was sneaking up with hardly any fog!
It was at the very top of Myrtle Point at 6:15AM that we decided to tell the kids what surprise we had in-store for them once we were at the bottom of the trail! They were so excited and it was the perfect motivation to hike a mile back to camp, and 5.4 miles down Alum Cave. They were so excited to spend the with at Wilderness In The Smokies, this huge waterpark hotel that we had seen in Pigeon Forge the first night we had arrived. It was not crowded and we felt comfortable that with all the sun, outdoors and chlorine, we could keep the family safe!
We got back to the cabin, packed up and started down the wonderful trail, soaking in all the scenes that this time, were familiar, encouraging all the others that were walking up.
When we got down down in 2 hours and 55 minutes and we only stoped once for a break at Alum Cave, we felt so accomplished and proud of the 18 miles we hiked in 3 days. It had only taken us We feels so blessed and lucky that it didn’t rain once, after 12 straight days of rain, up until the day we climbed. Wow, we were so fortunate. We looked at the caked on dirt and some took a 30 minute power nap.
As we pulled out of hotel on Saturday around 7:15AM, we decided to cancel our hotel in Atlanta Monday night and book the big waterpark hotel place we saw in Pigeon Forge. We stopped at Walmart for a bathing suit shopping spree and checked into Wilderness at the Smokies for a super fun afternoon and evening! It was a great experience for Delaney to get to do so many tube rides that she hadn't been brave enough to try until today.
