Carter's 1st Year of Playing Saxophone in 6th Grande - Beginner Band

Carter found out in May of his 5th grade year, that he was going to get to play his #1 choice of Saxophone for the Lopez Middle School Beginner Band. That May, we found a very nice, gently used Saxophone from a family in Westlake, near Austin. The first of August, Carter started weekly, hour long private lessons with Matthew Trevino, his Roan Forest music teacher on Sunday afternoons. These early lessons definitely set him up to be way ahead of his peers by the time school started.

Being in band has been great for our pick up schedule. Since the 1st or 2nd week of school, Carter gets out of school at 3:40PM and goes straight to the band hall to practice for 30 minutes until one of picks him up at 4:10PM.

October 24, he had his very first band concert. The week after that, they started doing "chair tests" and Carter has been "1st chair" each time.

December 11, 2018 - Carter had his his band holiday concert. It was such a remarkable  improvement from just a month prior at the first Fall concert.

In May, his entire Beginner band had a competition in New Braunfels. They were supposed to spend the day at Schlitterbahn but Carter had a ECNL Soccer game he couldn't miss.

Carter Made Honors Band at End of 6th Grade with Baritone Saxophone

Weeks ago, tryouts had occurred for band placement in the 3 top bands for 7th and 8th graders. The last Friday, before school got out, Carter texted Blake and I telling us he had made the top Honors band for baritone sax. He was SO excited and he tells a great story of how he found out. He scanned the top Honors band list and saw his good friend's name, Elijah, had made Honors for Alto Sax, so Carter walked away disappointed and then Elijah said, "Carter, you got Bari Sax in Honors!" It's the largest of all sax's. Many say the strongest lungs get the Bari, as it is truly gigantic! We are incredibly proud of Carter. His band director, Mrs. Kim Garza wrote, "Proud of Carter! He's done great work in band with his playing!"

Delaney is a Daisy

In early February, Delaney started her first Girl Scout Daisy troop meeting with her Roan Forest friends. They looked forward to their every other week meetings!
