The month of February was filled with a new Academic experience for Carter and Addison. An introduction to the Roan Forest UIL Academic Team. Carter was only able to make one meeting with his Sonido music practice on the same days but I was so proud of him balancing it all. Carter studied and competed in chess, art and spelling.
It was Addison that really embraced the competition and information. We would find her studying her chess notes, writing out her own study sheets and even begging us to practices spelling words with her the days prior. But in true Addison form, it was in the area of "Storytelling," that Addison excelled and ultimately took 1st place out of 63 other 2nd and 3rd graders. All month, she had taken opportunities with YaYa, Meme, Delaney and all of us to practice. Blake would read a book to Delaney and Addison would ret-ell it in her own words. Well, it paid off for Addison with the "gold" medal.
