This was Addison's first "out of town" soccer tournament played in Houston. Her Classics team did so good and even played up to U9. What made this so exciting was that it was a fast paced 5 vs 5 tournament that included goalies. We were all set to head back on Sunday at 11am, when we found out that the girls made the finals and played their final game at 3:00pm. Megan had to fly out to Indianapolis for training early the next morning and contemplated going back and missing the final game... boy was she glad she stayed!
In the end, we ended up tying the game in the final minute that forced us to go to a "shootout" that included penalty kicks. We were so proud of Addie, as she was the first (and only girl) to raise her hand and volunteer to be goalie, in that high pressure environment. She did fantastic and made a couple of great saves, but unfortunately we did not make any penalty kicks for our team and we ultimately lost. There was a lot of emotions at the end of the game and girls completive spirits definitely came out.
The most memorable part was when fellow teammate, Abby's older sister and her entire team, who played in the U11 part of the tournament, all came running up and cheering Addie on. Addie was super sad, but had such courage and strength. All the positive feedback she got from her team and the older team increased her desire to become the best goalie for the team, when they need her.
