Day #5 Down, Only 2210 More To Go!

Yes, Monday night, Blake and I calculated roughly how many school mornings the average student has between Kinder and graduation!

Here is our first week's Kinder wrap up memories:

First Day: He said LOVED it but I found out that he and Cash did have to be separated while sitting on the rug together. When asked the favorite part of his day, he instantly started detailing games in the gym with music and doing exercise. I don't know if they still call it P.E. but it's his favorite. He told me he wasn't confused at all during the day and understood the teacher. Monday night, he crashed hard at 7:20PM.
The smile just after picking him up Monday!
Second Day: During our evening dinner ritual, he said his favorite part of the day was learning Spanish and he didn't have a bad part to his day. (Makes a momma's heart melt.) Scariest story of the week was when Blake received a call from the after school care at 3:30PM on Tuesday asking if we had already picked up Carter because he wasn't there nearly 50 minutes after school was released. While Blake was flipping out on the other end of the line, they got a call from the other school's after school program on the other side of campus and Carter had been brought to the wrong one. Good thing they had called Blake and not me. I was there to pick up about 15 minutes later to ensure it really was him! We had our first ever homework this evening (see previous post.) Tuesday, he crashed even harder and earlier at 6:50PM. My goal of getting him enough sleep so that he wakes up on this own or extremely easily at 6:40AM is working so far!
I am so thrilled we have been used to making lunches every single day for over a year already however we have had to move the task till the night before, for sanity sakes!

Third Day: Today was a BIG day because it was the first time I dropped him off in the "drop off lane," which brought back so many memories of 5th grade Patrols. I still remember my yellow belt and telling the parents to "have a nice day!" Today, Carter again told me he loved school and that his teacher told him today, "he was the best leader in the class," because he was trying to get all his new friends to be quiet when she was talking. He fills me in everyday on his "coupon" count (tickets for good behavior, I am thinking.) He received twenty "rocks" when we got home and I loved how he quickly obliged and counted them in Spanish when I asked. The other big first for the day was Carter going through the lunch line and buying his own milk with his account we already put money in. He was so proud of himself and said he choose regular milk over Strawberry milk. He really wants to show me how he does this the next time I am in the cafeteria. Too cute. Mom crashed at 6:55 this particular night. Starting Kinder isn't just hard work for the kid! Blake was out of town for work and I woke up at 8:30PM with both kids curled up around me... it was a sweet first week memory.
Right before he got out of the car in the drop off lane... he was so excited!
Fourth Day: On our way to the car he asked me, unprovoked, if I knew how to say "ticket" in Spanish? I did, however I told him "no" and he was so proud when he told me "boleto." Then Addie was repeating. Soon after he was telling me how to say "pencil" in Spanish - "lapiz." He told me they sing the months of the year in Spanish. This momma was literally jumping up in down! After all of us getting so much sleep the night before, we felt great and I lost track of time delaying bedtime some in hopes Blake's flight would get here in-time to say goodnight. Before I knew it, it was 8:20 before he crawled in bed and let's just say waking up Friday morning was a lot rougher!

Fifth Day: On Friday, all three of us picked up Carter on our way to Tyler to visit MiMi and Carter again was in the best spirits. From a distance he was yelling, "Mom... do you know what lunch is in Spanish?!?!? "Lonchera!!!!" His take-home folder the last three days had hand written notes and today's made me smile the biggest as his happy momma read, "Excellent work today. Carter follows instructions and is a great leader!" All in all a spectacular first week of Kindergarten and a big sigh of relief, as all the questions and concerns I have had in the last nine months putting Carter into this program seem to be working out for him and the super cool kid he has become.
